There are quite a few well-regarded anchorages along the Wye River East and many are in little coves or creeks along Wye Island that provide good protection and solitude. We chose the one indicated on the map to the right since it was unoccupied. The popular Dividing Creek anchorage around the bend was already occupied by a number of boats and we were not interested in going further up the river.
Wye Island is a Maryland Natural Resources Management Area providing a pleasant environment for observing wildlife and enjoying the solitude. Residences dot the opposite shoreline. We were alone in this anchorage and being unfamiliar with it, we chose a spot at the mouth of the cove. There is enough room for a couple of boats and next time I will go a little further in to drop the hook. This may not be a convenient spot if you need to get ashore with a dog. |
