Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina, Charleston, SC
Last Visited: March 2024 This very large marina is easily accessible from the ICW or if you are entering from the ocean. On this visit we came from the ocean and made a direct route to the marina. You do have to watch out for all types of traffic as this is an active commercial harbor and there are also numerous recreational boats. The marina has a reputation for a swift current and recommends entry and exit at slack tide. |
The marina staff gave clear instructions and assistance as we took on fuel and then proceeded to our dock assignment. The floating fuel dock, which by the way is open 24 hours, is located at the entrance to the marina and is protected by a breakwater. All of our check-in material was given to us at the fuel dock.
The marina and resort are located across the river from downtown Charleston and next to the USS Yorktown. The floating docks are very long and lead to a long boardwalk adjacent to the shore where you will find a building with the marina office and restrooms. There are also offices for various boat rental concerns. Another long walkway will take you to the resort area which includes swimming pool, hot tub, restaurant and bar. There is a small marina store with mostly souvenir items, but they do have snacks, cold drinks. wine and beer. There is a larger restaurant next door to the marina store.
Since this marina is basically in downtown Charleston, television reception was very good as was cell phone reception. The marina has OnSpot Wifi which worked ok, but as usual with many marina Wifi systems, it lagged a little at times.
We were only at the marina overnight and did not take advantage of all the resort amenities, included in the resort fee which is required as part of the dockage rates. According to the staff there is a shuttle that will take you to the downtown area. There is also a water taxi that stops at the marina, however there is an additional cost for that.
