Jekyll Harbor Marina, Jekyll Island, GA
Jekyll Island is a great place to visit and the marina is very convenient and accommodating, providing you time your travel appropriately with consideration of the large tide changes. The approach to the marina from the north can be very challenging at low tide. We do not have a deep draft, but the shallow depths still intimidate us. The approach from the south includes a transit across Saint Andrew Sound which can be problematic in certain conditions. Wind and tide should be taken into consideration when planning your transit. The marina generally places transients along the long face dock and is able to fuel most boats where they are tied up. Pump out is available at your dock as well. As this marina is directly on the ICW, there is a continuous stream of traffic on the water, both commercial and recreational, so you may experience a little rolling. There is a pool onsite as well as a restaurant that is open to the public. The clean bathhouses are located in the same building as the restaurant. We were docked near the bridge and could hear the bridge traffic. Jekyll Island is a beautiful location with typical southern charm, and the marina provides complimentary bicycles and golf carts to tour the island. We were able to travel around to see the some of the historic homes and resort areas, as well as visit a number of shops. Many people come to Jekyll Island for vacation, unfortunately we only stayed one night. There was much more to see and do. |
