Dividing Creek - Wye River EastMost Recent Visit:
September 16 - 17, 2021 Dividing Creek is a popular anchorage on the Wye River East with well-protected space and sufficient depth for a number of boats. The creek winds into Wye Island for quite a distance and is surrounded by natural woods on both sides. We anchored near the mouth of the creek, but additional anchorages can be found further up the creek. |

Wye Island is a Maryland Natural Resources Management Area providing a pleasant environment for observing wildlife and enjoying the solitude. Residences dot the opposite shoreline.
The weather was overcast and rainy on this particular trip, but there was no appreciable wind. We were alone in the anchorage in a small cove on the port side near the mouth of the creek, although a boat of recreational crabbers were working their lines in the morning. The professional watermen were out on the river and started up at their usual time around 4:30am. The wake from passing boats as well as the watermen was minimal. There did not seem to be too many spots to safely dinghy ashore as there were many downed trees and branches. We anchored fairly close to the shoreline in less than 8 feet of water. Conditions were very calm and our 50+ feet of chain held perfectly. The anchor and chain came up cleaner than expected, requiring minimal wash down. We had one bar of ATT signal and were able to pick up some TV signals from Eastern Shore stations.
The Wye River East runs off of the Wye River which is accessed from the Eastern Bay. There is plenty of depth in both rivers. We have used this area frequently as a stopover when cruising to and from St. Michaels.
