Anchorage Marina - Baltimore

Anchorage Marina is situated between the popular areas of Canton and Fells Point in Baltimore. The area boasts a safe walkway along the water between the townhomes, condominiums and the busy harbor. It is a great place for a morning run, a walk with the kids or dog, or just getting out in the fresh air. You can easily get to the restaurants and shops all along the Baltimore waterfront.

About half of the marina has newer floating docks. The other floating docks are a bit older, but very serviceable. Each slip has finger piers on both sides giving you the option for port or starboard side tie. A long dock on the outside perimeter of the marina allows for dockage of large yachts. There is also a pump out station on that dock.

The marina is easily accessible on your starboard side in the busy Baltimore Harbor after passing Fort McHenry on your port and some large commercial piers. The harbor is a no wake, 6 knot speed limit zone starting at the Fort.
Wayne the dockmaster helped us with a pump out and then directed us to the slip. He assisted us as we tied up and provided all the details about the marina and surrounding services. In slip pump out service is available on Mondays and Wednesdays for $10 instead of $5 at the outside pier. There is no fuel service at Anchorage Marina, but it is available at the marina next door. It is a bit of a maze getting to the interior slips and the fairways may seem a little tight in windy conditions. We arrived and departed during calm weather and had no problems. Depths at the dock were good.
We did not take advantage of the nearby Safeway or West Marine on this trip, but we have used them before and they are very convenient. This is a good location for cruisers looking to provision or pick up boat supplies. Boat services can be arranged as well. There are many restaurants and shops close to the marina.
We were amazed that the marina was so quiet both on weekdays and during the weekend, although we were there towards the end of the season. I expected more movement as a result of wakes from boats passing in the harbor, but was pleasantly surprised at how calm it was.
The bathroom facilities are adequate, although a little small for such a large marina, and the lounge is nice. Coffee and pastries were available on Saturday morning for the marina guests in the lounge. The marina has a good sized laundry by the bathrooms, however there was no Wifi on the docks. We have been to marinas with poor Wifi on the docks, but it has been very rare to have no Wifi. We did not try it, but the material provided said that Wifi was available in the lounge. The ATT cellular signal was strong and of course TV reception was good since it was the middle of the city. There is a pool on the outside pier, however we did not use it on this trip.

There are a few good marinas in downtown Baltimore. We found that Anchorage was a little less expensive than the others. It is probably best to choose the marina that is most convenient to the area of the city you wish to visit.
