Safe Harbor Marina, Beaufort, SC
Beaufort is a great stop on the ICW with the marina steps from downtown. There are number of nice shops and restaurants convenient to the marina. To get there, you need to manage the swift current when docking and departing. The marina staff are well-prepared to help boaters on and off the floating docks, but it will help to know in advance which way the current is running. It only calms for a brief time at the tide changes. The marina has fuel and pump out services available and has a fairly large contingent of live-a-boards. It is a little walk to the acceptable bathroom and shower facilities, as well as the laundry. We did not have much success with the wifi during our stay, but our ATT cell signal worked ok. There is a remote marina office on the docks with another office in the ships store onshore. The store has some boat supplies, beer, wine and limited provisioning items. There is a small grocery store in town with daily fresh bread and other food supplies. Get there early for the bread as it disappears quickly. The town has developed a nice walk along the shoreline with a bandstand and park area. A number of the restaurants have outdoor seating that looks out over the water. Many cruisers consider this a must stop location. |
