A fairly narrow, but well-marked channel that is a straight shot from the Bay and running alongside the beach leads you into Herrington Harbor South and perhaps one of the largest marinas on the Bay. The marina has 600 slips for boats of all sizes and types. Transients are assigned to regular slips as well as a long dock in the channel directly adjacent to the beach. The fourth T-head on the left as you enter the main part of the marina is the fuel dock and pumpout. The fixed docks are in very good condition with Trex planking. The finger piers are half the length of the slip and they are also the location of the power and water pedestal.
Reservations for transients are handled through Dockwa and worked well for us. The marina sent us confirmation emails along with approach instructions and a link to a very helpful drone video to illustrate the approach. We had excellent assistance from the dockhand for fueling and docking. Check in was handled efficiently at the marina office where we were provided with bathhouse keys and resort property passes. The marina uses Onspot Wifi which is generally strong and reliable. You choose which access point is providing the best signal. ATT was showing 3 bars on our phones. |
Other resort amenities include a number of clean bathhouses around the property and a beach area with chairs and umbrellas. Paddleboards and kayaks are available for use and a sailing school was offering small sailboat rentals with instruction. The view from the sandy beach is excellent and a great place for young kids if they want something different than the pool.
Grills, both gas and charcoal, with picnic tables are scattered all around the property. Tennis, basketball and other outdoor game facilities are available. We did not take advantage of the laundry or fitness centers during our visit. Our trip to Herrington Harbor South was mid-week the last week of July. There were quite a few guests, but it was not overly crowded. I imagine that it is very busy on summer weekends, and especially if they have weddings or special events scheduled. For our next visit, I may request a spot on the long dock in the channel next to the beach. Access is easy since you avoid the main section of the marina and I'm sure the sunrise view is spectacular. The downside may be a bit of rocking and rolling with the constant boat traffic entering the marina. |
