Members of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum have the opportunity to dock on the grounds of the museum when visiting St. Michaels. There are a variety of boat slips, T-heads and bulkheads. We have been in slips and on bulkheads during our visits. Both require a little climbing depending on the configuration of your boat, but the docking fees are a little cheaper than the other marinas in the harbor. For certain membership levels, you get a second night free after paying for the first night, once per year. We have enjoyed taking advantage of that benefit as a stay in St. Michaels is much better if you are there for more than one night. In addition, you and your guests are able to tour the museum for free and observe the craftsmen at work. There are bathroom facilities at both ends of the property. The museum lacks the amenities of other marina properties, but we enjoy walking the grounds, touring the buildings and watching the boat work taking place. You will also be able to watch the constant parade of boats and yachts as they enter and leave the harbor. The Wifi was a bit slow. I wouldn't depend on it for any important online work. We tended to use our phones as hotspots rather than depend on the Wifi. The ATT signal was 2 to 3 bars.
On some of our past visits we have used the free pumpout boat that generally operates on the weekend. We were tied up next to the free pumpout station on our last trip, and took advantage of it before we departed. A couple of local boaters came by to use the pumpout during our stay. It's another nice benefit for members.
Nights at the museum docks are a bit quieter than the commercial marinas in the harbor, although the days can be busy with museum visitors coming and going. A ferry from Annapolis comes in on weekend days during the season and docks on the bulkhead nearest the river. Occasionally the museum hosts weddings and other events. We have not visited during some of the big events, but we understand that the dock space sells out quickly. We have visited at various times of the year and find that weekdays are generally quiet, but the weekends in St. Michaels can be very active.
The main part of town with many shops and restaurants is a few blocks away and very walkable.
