Bald Head Island Marina, Bald Head Island, NC
Bald Head Island is a unique stop on the ICW in the area of Cape Fear. It is a protected harbor, however there is a regular ferry from the mainland that creates turbulence in the marina that everyone feels. The harbor is surrounded by private homes as well as tourist accommodations. We arrived here after an outside passage around Frying Pan Shoals, but it is accessible from the ICW as well. The fuel dock is very convenient and includes a free pump out. The marina office includes a modest ships store. The docks are floating and can accommodate both large and small boats. Private bathrooms with showers were located right behind our boat along with the washers and dryers. There is a nice grocery store on the island, but it is a distance away and only accessible with bicycles or golf cart. There are no private vehicles on the island. Everyone drives golf carts, which are available for rent, but they are not inexpensive. We enjoyed driving around the island to look at the homes and visit some of the shops. A lighthouse and museum are not far from the marina. A walk to the top of the lighthouse will give you a good view of the surrounding area. |
