Kilkenny Marina, Richmond Hill, GA
This marina is very different than the marinas you normally frequent, however we were taken care of upon our arrival which included a load of fuel at a very reasonable price. You will not want to plan on any amenities at Kilkenny other than a dock to tie up to, and you may want to find an alternate if a major storm is headed their way. The docks are built on wobbly floating barrels with 2 x 6 boards standing upright instead of cleats. Our 50 amp power worked fine, but the outlet looked a little suspect. There is a modest ships store and bathrooms, but you may prefer to use your onboard head. There is no WIFI and our ATT signal was a little weak. The marina is on the grounds of a former plantation and includes large live oak trees with lovely Spanish moss. There is a highly regarded restaurant nearby, but it is usually open only Wednesday through Sunday. You may want to check the schedule in advance if that is the reason for your visit. We were the only transients during our stay. It was eerily quiet, but safe. The morning brought a lot of early activity as the local fishermen arrived to launch their boats and prepare for a day of fishing. This is not a resort marina, but worth at least one visit for the experience. |
