Swan CreekThis is a bit of a cheat for us since our home marina is in Swan Creek, but this is really is one of our favorite anchorages. It takes us 15 minutes to get there from the dock, and most of that time is spent casting off the lines. A great place to swim, paddle board, eat lunch, enjoy a quiet day or just spend a night on the hook.

Gibson IslandThis anchorage goes by a few different names, but most boaters know it as the horse farm. The popular cove is off the Magothy River. Head to starboard after entering the Magothy, pass Dobbins Island on your port side and continue to starboard around the point. You will usually find a few boats anchored, but occasionally you will have this peaceful location to yourselves.

Reed CreekThis tranquil anchorage off the Chester River can be a bit tricky to enter, but is well protected. There are a few homes around the perimeter of the anchorage and plenty of room for quite a few boats. We rode out a pretty good storm here one night. The anchor held well, but it does come up muddy. An anchor wash- down hose comes in handy here.

This anchorage has become a regular for us. It was our first overnight anchorage and we still enjoy coming back to it. It is usually calm and peaceful here, even with a few other boats around and there are some spots to land the dinghy and do a little hiking and exploring.

Annapolis - Mooring Field
Annapolis is a boater's town. There is plenty to do and see and the city is very welcoming to the boating community. There are many nice marinas in the area, and we have stayed at a few, but we enjoy tying up to a mooring ball to take advantage of all that the area has to offer. The city makes it convenient for boaters and there is plenty to do within walking distance of the harbor. If you want to venture out further, there is always Uber. |
Still Pond
One of the most popular and well-known anchorages on the Bay. It includes a small beach, sandbar and a shallows areas for swimming. It is very crowded on summer weekends, but you will be rewarded with a wonderful experience if you can drop the anchor during the week or during the off-season. |
Trippe Creek/Flatty Cove - Tred Avon River - Oxford
The Trippe Creek anchorage is large, well-protected, and can accommodate many boats. We visited on a very quiet late September night. Flatty Cove is convenient to the town of Oxford, but more exposed to the activities on the Tred Avon River. |
Rhode River
There are a number of nice protected anchorages in the Rhode River, however this is an active recreation area with the local boaters. Those looking for quiet nights at anchor may wish to save their trip for mid-week or off-season. |
Wye River East
This area offers many anchorages that allow cruisers the opportunity to enjoy natural surroundings and quiet settings. It is easily accessible from the Eastern Bay south of Kent Narrows and directly across the Chesapeake Bay from the West River/Rhode River area. |
