Somers Cove Marina - Crisfield, MD |
Most Recent Visit: August 26, 2025
Crisfield has been on our list of places to visit for some time. We decided to stop in on our way back up the Bay. We had never been through Tangier Sound either, so we checked two items off the list in the same trip. Somers Cove Marina is a large marina in a protected basin with a lot of recreational and commercial traffic. |
|
You enter the basin through a fairly narrow entrance with a multi-story condominium on one side and a commercial fishing operation on the other. Once inside, the basin opens up and is quite large. Prior to tying up at the floating docks used for transients, we stopped off at the easily accessible fuel dock to take on diesel. Despite looking at the maps and marina layout before arrival, we were a little confused and eventually saw the fuel dock to port which is easily identified by the bright red office at the end of the dock. The two dockhands helped us get secured and assisted with the fueling. They also directed us to our slip for the evening and assisted with the lines. The sturdy concrete transient docks are relatively new and have center pilings for protection between boats. We checked in at the marina office, which includes a small shop of gifts and supplies, and received our complimentary slices of the famous Smith Island Cake. It was a very nice touch. The marina has quite a few docks both fixed and floating for long-term slipholders. Some of the fixed docks appeared to be out of service due to age and condition.
The bathrooms and shower were clean and well-maintained, and located in the marina office building with keypad access. Wifi worked fine, however we were told by some other boaters that it can be problematic at times. Our ATT cell signal was adequate, but there was no over-the-air television, which is understandable considering the remoteness of Crisfield. The nighttime security staff stopped by to check on all the boats and say hello. The pool looked inviting, although we did not use it since the weather was a bit cool. |
The marina was not very busy during our visit, however the marina and town were preparing for their large crab festival over the Labor Day holiday and many boats were expected.
We walked around the small town and down to the harbor entrance. Despite being an active boating center, not much else was going on in town. There were very few restaurants and shops, but many closed down businesses. It appeared as though the locals as well as many out-of-town guests anticipate the Annual Crab Derby every Labor Day Weekend. I'm sure it is a welcome boost to the economy.
