Lighthouse Point Marina - Baltimore, MD
Most Recent Visit: September 7-8, 2024 In 2017 we picked up the first Encore at this marina as it is also the home office of Chesapeake Yacht Center. We were here on and off for about a month while we received the training required by our insurance provider. As a result, we became quite familiar with the marina and the area. At the time, the marina was deteriorating and was definitely in need of renovation. Over the past couple of years, that renovation has taken place and now the marina is in excellent condition with beautiful floating docks, composite decking, new power pedestals and in-slip pumpouts. Construction is still underway for the future marina office and boaters lounge. They currently do not have many slipholders relative to the size of the marina. It is located in the Canton section of Baltimore and includes a dockside bar called Drift. A very convenient West Marine is located in the building adjacent to the marina. The bathhouses with showers are fine and coin-operated washers and dryers are located in the same building. There is a very nice pool on site, however we did not use it on this visit. The layout of the slips allows for many large beam boats, i.e. catamarans to fit. I would think this is an ideal location if you are a catamaran owner. The marina is run by Oasis, who sponsored a "Boatfest" event and that was the motivation for us to return to Lighthouse Point and see the result of the renovations. They had quite a few boats coming in over two days and the dockhands did a nice job helping all of the boats get tied up. Despite some passing rain, the event was very nice and gave us the chance to sample the offerings at the Drift Bar as well as see the facility. It should be top notch when it is completed. For cruisers, this could be a very convenient stop. In addition to the West Marine, there is a Safeway Grocery a block away making provisioning an easier task. We enjoyed the beautiful and safe walking promenade along the waterfront which leads all the way up to the popular Fells Point area. We did not venture far from the marina, however we were told that there are a number of eateries nearby in addition to the Drift Bar and the other two right next to the marina. The complimentary WiFi was a little sketchy. My devices kept disconnecting, but the TV maintained a good connection for streaming. Over the air TV reception was outstanding. We had a strong ATT signal as well. Passage into the Baltimore Harbor is straight forward and the marina entrance on the starboard side as you make your way downtown is easy to navigate. It was a bit eery cruising by the site of the tragic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. That was such a dominating landmark and it is missed. |
