IGY Savannah Harbor Marina - Savannah, GA
Last visit: March 26-28, 2026 The newly built Savannah Harbor Marina is a little over 7 miles from where the ICW crosses the Savannah River, is directly across from downtown Savannah, and in my opinion, a rising gem that will become very popular among ICW travelers The large and well-protected basin is bordered by apartment complexes on one side and a Westin Hotel and Savannah Convention Center on the other. The marina boasts beautiful floating docks that can accommodate many boats of various sizes. A long dock on the riverfront has space for a number of megayachts as well as fuel service. Reservations were made through Dockwa. The marina staff responded quickly to the reservation request and provided helpful pre-arrival information, including slip assignment. Dockside assistance upon arrival was excellent. Amenities include free use of the washers and dryers and free in-slip pump out. There are two private bathrooms with shower in the marina office building as well as separate restrooms. Security is excellent as the docks, bathrooms and laundry are accessed with a fob or mobile phone app. The marina WiFi worked well and we were able to receive a number of local over-the-air televison stations. ATT service was strong, as would be expected in a larger urban area. There are no restaurants or stores onsite. There is a Krogers grocery store in downtown Savannah. It is a pleasant walk to get there, but you will want to get transportation if you plan to stock up. Savannah is a very busy port city and you will see numerous cargo ships and commercial vessels pass by the marina during your stay. Wakes were minimal. If transiting in or out, you will want to monitor the VHF for traffic and plan your voyage accordingly. |

The city of Savannah provides a free ferry service across the river from the Convention Center to the downtown area. The ferry runs about twice per hour from early in the morning until about 10pm. The ferry landing is about 10 to 15 minute walk from the marina, however the marina staff are happy to take you over and pick you up by golf cart.
Savannah is a very walkable city with many tree-lined streets and large park-like squares every few blocks. The stately homes represent the best of southern architecture. Since the city is a tourist destination, there is much to do with numerous museums, river boat cruises, restaurants and live entertainment. An outdoor market greeted us as we disembarked the ferry and much of the original waterfront with cobblestone streets and wrought iron railings was still there to enjoy. Savannah College of Art and Design is located in the city and its influence is clearly evident. This is one of our favorite stops along the ICW and we are so happy that there is such a nice marina conveniently located to beautiful downtown Savannah. |
