We were given clear entry instructions after contacting the marina by radio. The dockhands were very helpful getting us tied up and connected to shore power. The concrete floating docks are in good shape and provide very convenient in-slip fueling. There are pilings between the finger piers for protection. The breakwater ensures that the marina basin is protected from the wakes and waves created by the busy boat traffic in the harbor. There were no gates restricting access to the docks, but the remoteness of the marina makes that unnecessary.
The marina office is located behind the beautiful infinity pool overlooking the marina, and also serves as a well-stocked ships store. Check in was very smooth since we used Dockwa for our reservations. We received a variety of local information as well as bathroom codes and the WiFi password. |
The marina is quite a distance from town, but they have a shuttle service that will take you back and forth during regular business hours. There is no on-site eating establishment and no local stores for provisioning. We did take our dinghy across the busy harbor for lunch one day. The iconic Lobster House restaurant has a couple of floating docks for short-term use by restaurant patrons right across from the South Jersey Marina docks.

We enjoyed beautiful New Jersey shore weather during our stay. That included colorful sunrises and crisp evenings. Many of the boats were elegantly lit up at night, so we added our lights to the festive atmosphere.
There was always a lot of activity in the marina with crews working on the sportfishing boats. A number of the boats left the marina in the middle of the night to head way out for a day of fishing, but many more left at the crack of dawn. As much as we enjoyed our time here, it is not really a cruiser's marina since there is little in the way of nearby shoreside services and the actual center of Cape May is quite a distance. On the other hand, there are no marinas in that area and travel by land is required, whether it be shuttle or Uber. |
